Description
Looking across the Providence River at a beautiful cotton candy sky sunset over the Manchester Street Power Station. Hues of blue, orange, and pink are in the sky and reflected in the water. I created this photo from a nice vantage point in Providence River Park on Bridge Street. The building to the left of the power plant is the Pumping Station for the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier.
Manchester Street Power Station was originally built between 1903-1904. At the time, the Rhode Island Electric Company supplied power to the electric street cars and trolleys of Providence RI.
The building to the left of the power plant in the photo, is the Pumping Station for the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier. The pumping station conveys water from the Providence River when the gates of the hurricane barrier are closed, to allow the constantly flowing river to continue downstream.
