Description
Still life photograph depicting a dagger and two pomegranates. One of the pomegranates is cut open to expose the seeds.
This still life photo was created with the symbolism of Dutch vanitas paintings in mind.
The knife or dagger can be seen to represent human vulnerability and mortality. A knife often symbolizes male sexuality, and some consider it a phallic symbol.
Pomegranates are seen as either a symbol of fertility, or temptation and a fall from grace. These interpretations date back to Greek and Roman mythology.
